Gravile, extremely rare, seems to be from Salento, Gravili is specific to Salento, Racale, Salice Salentino, Lecce and Monteronio di Lecce in Lecce and San Pancrazio Salentino, Cellino San Marco and Torchiarolo in Brindisi. additions provided by Stefano Ferrazzi Of grika origin or, alternatively, Greek-Albanian, the surnames Gravile and Gravili seem to arise from a metathesis of the Greek name Gavrilis (Gavril in Albanian), which, in Italian onomastics, corresponds to the well-known Gabriele (see Gabriel); a derivation from the Slavic name Gavrilo is less likely, but it always corresponds to the Italian Gabriele. With the name Gavril, however, the figure of the poet arbëreshë Gavril Dara i Riu (Palazzo Adriano, 1826 - Girgenti, 1885, also known as Gabriele Dara the Young), the author of a well-known epic poem entitled Kënga e sprasme and Balës (Bala's last song). As far as the surnames in question are concerned, therefore, they are the surnames of the personal names of the founders.
