Luoni is typical of the Varese area, of Cassano Magnago, Busto Arsizio, Gallarate and Cairate and of the nearby Legnano in Milan and Lezzeno in the Como area, it could derive from a modification of the name of the toponym Luino (VA), noble family of sculptors of the western branch of the lake of Como dates back at least to 1400, a Cristoforo Luoni, stonecutter, figure among the artists who in the second half of the 1400s worked the marbles of the Certosa di Pavia and in 1483 Policleto Luoni was among the sculptors who worked in Milan for the construction of the portal of the facade of Church of Santa Maria Podone.
