Very rare, it would seem to originate from the Milanese, there are secondary stumps in the Alessandria area and in northern Milan, in many cases it derives from the toponym Pietrasanta (LU), but the original family is very old dating back to at least 1200 when the Milanese Guiscardo da Pietrasanta was podestà of Lucca and in 1255 gave its name to today's city of Pietrasanta (LU); the Lombard branch continues with Pagano da Pietra Santa, son of Guiscardo knight and captain of the Florentines who died in Milan in the 1300s.
