The noble Brevei family derives its ancient origins from Poggio di Belvedere, a pleasant place located in the villa of Promontorio, dominating the village of San Pier d'Arena from above. It, for its virtues and its distinct reputation, obtained the privilege of Genoese citizenship in the grace year 1415. Among its eminent members, Lodisio stood out, a man of mirrored wisdom and prudence, who held the position of Counselor with honor in the years 1499 and 1501, and was elevated to the dignity of Elder in the year 1502. In the memorable year 1528, the Brevei family was solemnly ascribed to the illustrious Albergo dei Fieschi, an unequivocal sign of the esteem and prestige it enjoyed among the noblest houses of the Republic of Genoa.
