Ancient and very noble Cremonese family, called Cauzzo, Cauzzi and, more anciently, Cavuzzi or Cautij, which spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. According to some authors, the family descended from the French noble family of the Cauchy; according to others, however, the origin of this cognomination should be sought in a modification of the Latin staff "Causius", probably belonging to an, today unknown, progenitor. In any case, the Cauzzo family was invested with the fief of Longardore, in the Cremona countryside, on March 30, 1689 and with the fiefdoms of Binanova and Levata, in 1690. It also, in the tenth fifth century, had related to the dominant Mantuan lordship of the Gonzaga family and, subsequently, had the marquis title from the Dukes of Mantua.
