Ancient Neapolitan family, called Comis, Comiti or Comite, arrived in Messina, following King Charles of Anjou. Its progenitor, in the Kingdom of Sicily, was a certain Arrigo, a very noble cavalier, who under the aforementioned king Charles, was general treasurer of the royal donations, and who, in 1302, was senator of Messina, with Bonsignor d'Anzalone, Pietro Scalesi , Thomaso Fontana, Pirrello Piervitale, and Filippo di Mauro. Other illustrious genealogists believe, however, that this family flourished in the same very clear city under the Norman and Swabian kings; in which time they were exiled from Messina by Emperor Henry VI, Ansolino Comis and Fabio Comis; hence it is presumed that they were the progenitors of the Comis family in Naples, from which, afterwards, the aforementioned Arrigo passed.
