The very remote cognominization should derive from the ancient name Lollio. an ancient tradition claims that this family originated from the gens Lollia, whose progenitor was the patrician Marco Lollio, consul in 21 BC as from tombstones preserved by current representatives. In 1191 Giovanni and Bernardo participated in the Crusades for the capture of Cyprus and the following year sided with the Lusignano. In 1198, waging war in Cilicia, King Amaury granted Bernardo, the only survivor, and the family, the title of Count of Maranta, adding to the coat of arms the three crowned heads and the motto "Moderata durant". In 1320 Balduino became related to the Rupens of Pagratide, settling in Rome. This family has said of the historian Amayden was certainly included among those collected in the Golden Book of the Capitol. From the bibliography documented on the Vatican manuscripts, the relatively small number of memoirs concerning Roman families can be found.
