The Candida, in the Memoirs of the Noble Families, Naples, 1882, reports how this family is by the authors believed to be originally from Piedmont, and which took its name from the Quart Castle in the Aosta Valley. The first one to be remembered in the Kingdom of Naples is Giovanni Quarto, soldier of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, from whom he had granted a forest called Montegrosso, in the tenure of Bari. The Quarto enjoyed nobility in Salerno, in the Portaretese seat, in Barletta since 1716 and in Bitonto.
