The Selvos (sometimes also Silvo) were a Venetian patrician family, included among the so-called Case Nuove. In the second half of the 11th century they gave the Republic a doge, Domenico Selvo. The origins of the family are uncertain, but it is believed that it descends from a Lombard family that settled in Venice in the 7th century. The Selvos were active protagonists in the history of early medieval Venice, they gave the city ancient tribunes and four Procurators of San Marco, but they reached the pinnacle of power around 1071, with the election of Domenico Selvo to the doge office.
