Ancient family of Reggio Calabria, which wanted to be of Byzantine origin, and arrived there, following the fall of Constantinople. Over the centuries it gave its "adoptive" city numerous personalities of toga, weapons and studies, who participated in the administrative life with mayors, magistrates and deputies of the nobility. The canonical Giuseppe Morisani, distinguished historian, (1720-1777), indicates it as the family that introduced the cultivation of bergamot in Reggio at the end of the fifteenth century. Furthermore, this family belonged to both the noble brotherhoods of the city, the Ottimati and the Bianchi and was the owner of the oratory and chapel in its noble palace in Reggio, as granted by Pope Pius VI of 23 April 1776; it passed through the Order of Malta, as fourth of another family, in the year 1794.
