Antigua y muy noble familia del Reino de Nápoles, de clara y ancestral virtud, repartida a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia. Fue creado nobiliario en el siglo XVI, concretamente con un diploma fechado el 9 de diciembre de 1586 del rey Felipe II de España, entregado a Giovan Leonardo Mascia. En 1847 y 1853, esta familia fue admitida en la Guardia Real y reconocida como nobleza generosa por la Real Comisión de Títulos Nobiliarios de las Dos Sicilias (1834-1860). También poseía numerosas tierras y palacios nobles muy valiosos, incluidos el Palacio Mascia en Montefusco y el Palacio Mascia en San Severo.
