There are two versions regarding the origin of this surname. They coincide to a great extent, but they differ in the details relative to the times in which that surname was founded, and to the region in which it settled its primitive solar. According to several authors, the last name Álamo comes from the mountains of Asturias (some call it León), and its original site was in the today parish of Baiña, of the Municipality of Mieres, Lena's judicial district, in the province of Oviedo. It comes from the lineage of García, and this is explained by the alluded writers, because the Alamos descend from the family of don Pelayo García, valiant Captain who accompanied King Don Fernando II el Santo in the conquests of Andalusia, and adopted the last name Álamo for the next heroic action: To seize a tower of the Moors, whose defenders he intended to surprise, he spent one night stalking the enemy fortress, up and hidden among the branches of a large poplar. A brother of his, ambushed with the troops in an immediate mall, waited for the moment and the opportune signal to give the attack, and at this moment, they assaulted the tower with such impetus that, catching the Moors off guard, they soon seized it . The King, by this action, authorized him to take the poplar by last name for himself and his descendants, and granted him arms. The other version says the last name Á. It is originally from Castile, and that its founder was a very courageous gentleman.
