We have every reason to believe that this family, whose first subjects lived in Valenciennes, and which came to settle in Périgord in 1782, is a branch of the same name in Flanders, which is mentioned in Chenays-Desbois. This genealogist mentions, in fact, a François-Louis-Joseph, squire, Lord Du Mont and Beaufort, who shared with his younger brother the succession of their mother, from September 3, 1730 and October 8, 1731. This opinion, from a community of origin, acquires a new force when we see the analogy of the old arms of the family of Flanders and that of Périgord. The first bear: 1st and 4th, Azure with a saltire Or, accompanied by three spur wheels of the same, and the seconds, before the adoption of the mount, (speaking arms), bore: Azure with chevron argent charged with five ermine speckles, also accompanied by three spur knurls.
