Ancient and noble German family, of clear and ancestral virtue, with a main branch in Austria, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. The first references to the family are found already at the end of the thirteenth century, when a Leycht Kast flourished in East Prussia. Subsequently, in the year 1398, a Jäk Kast appeared as captain of the castle of Füssen while in 1648 a Walther Kast resided in Hamburg as a legal scholar. However, it was during the eighteenth century that the family appeared permanently in Wertheim, the city where Johann Georg Carl was born. In 1798 he moved to Nuremberg as successor to the pharmacist Merkel and in this city he received confirmation of his ancestral nobility. As can also be seen from some common elements in the coats of arms, the Kast family flourished in Austria is of the same agnation of the one above
