Ancient and illustrious Terni family, called Tomasoni or Tomassoni, of clear and ancestral virtue, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. Initially belonging to the small ruling class of the state, consisting of notaries, lawyers, mayors and prosecutors, by virtue of the heroic and political deeds of a Raimondo, the house obtained the comital title and the arms. Alessandro Tomasoni, born in Terni around 1508 and died in 1555, to the Madonna della Quercia from the injuries sustained in the grandiose battle of Porto Ercole on 10 June 1555, can be considered the "military progenitor" of the family. He carried out his military career starting from the lowest step up to becoming General of the pontifical army and appreciated military engineer. He made his debut under the orders of Gentil Virginio Orsini, Count of Anguillara, going through all the coasts of the Mediterranean to fight the Turks, then he passed into the papal army to lead, as a leading figure, the salt war first in Perugia then in Paliano; always in Perugia he collaborated with San Gallo on the construction of the Rocca Paolina; laid siege to the city of Mirandola and conquered it; finally, he participated in the defense of the Republic of Siena, where he exhaled his mortal breath. His brother Lucantonio, born in Terni in 1511, followed in his brotherly footsteps, but preferred other clients: the Dukes of Savoy. He fought in the wars of Piedmont, in the Franco-Habsburg conflict, in the wars of religion in Germany and in the wars of Flanders, crowned by the victorious battle of San Quintino, through which the Savoy regained their Duchy.
