The name 'Tyler' originates from England. It is derived from the occupational name for a maker or layer of tiles, derived from the agent derivative of the Middle English word 'tile' (from the Old English word 'tigele', from the Latin word 'tegula', a derivative of 'tegere' meaning to cover). In the Middle Ages tiles were widely used in floors and pavements, and to a lesser extent in roofing, where they did not really come in to their own until the 16th century.
