Antica e notabile famiglia toscana ritenuta della medesima agnazione del casato dei Cresci. Anton Maria, abate priore di S. Giorgio in Città di Castello e prefetto degli studi in quel seminario e collegio, vivente nel 1774; Luigi, canonico, sacerdote e scrittore vivente nel 1860; altro Luigi preside del regio liceo di Caltanissetta nel 1863. La cognominizzazione deriva dal nome medioevale Crescius di cui si hanno tracce ad esempio a Firenze nel V° secolo con un vescovo con questo nome; si ricorda il beato Crescio, terziario francescano, nato a Foligno nel 1243, o anche nel 1500 in una lettera leggiamo: "Nicolaus Crescius Florentinus monachus cisterciensis Antonio Lanfredino Florentino civi illustri salutem. Multa quidem sunt, Antoni Lanfredine, et in philosophia et in theologia, cum obscure dicta, tum ad cognoscendum difficilia....". ...

D'azzurro, alla banda di rosso bordata d'oro, accompagnata da due monti di sei cime dello stesso, 1.1.

Stemma della famiglia Cresci, Tragualzi o Pegolesi in Firenze, San Giovanni, Vaio e Firenze, Santa Maria Novella, Lion rosso; fonte: "Raccolta Ceramelli Papiani" custodita presso l'archivio di stato di Firenze fasc.1703. Note: Si trovano anche gli antichi cognomi «Tragualzi» e «Pegolesi». Lo stemma è anche partito con quello della famiglia Strozzi (cfr. fasc.4515) (cfr. Sepoltuario Rosselli, Migliore Cresci e Cornelia Strozzi, 1562, Roma, chiesa di S. Clemente). Nella fotografia dell'esemplare del Palazzo Pretorio di Volterra, relativa a Migliore Cresci, capitano nel 1465, gli smalti sono sicuramente diversi (sembra un trinciato), ma la foto è in b/n. Nel Palazzo Pretorio di Palaia, nello stemma riferito a Simone Cresci, podestà nel 1621-22, c'è, invece di una banda, una fascia non bordata.
