Nobility crown CuppiniAntica famiglia bolognese, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, la cui blasonatura è riportata nell'opera "Blasone bolognese, cioè Arme gentilizie di famiglie bolognesi, nobili, cittadinesche e aggregate", pubblicata a Bologna tra il 1791 e il 1795, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata, tramite un ipocoristico, nel nome medioevale "Cuppus", appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. In ogni modo, tal casato, in ogni epoca, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Matteo, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Bologna, nel 1534; Luigi, dottore in Sacra Teologia, autore di numerosi saggi, vivente in Reggio Emilia, nel 1568; Arrigo, dei Chierici Regolari, stimato e coperto di onori, da Guglielmo, duca di Mantova; Gio. Maria, notaio bolognese, ivi vivente nel 1592; D. Marco Valerio, ...
