BUTTITTA

Buttitta is typically Sicilian of Palermo, of Bagheria in particular and of Palermo, it could derive from a hypocoristic dialect nickname with the meaning of small barrel, to indicate perhaps a particular roundness and short stature of the founders, according to another hypothesis could derive from an alteration dialectal hypocoristic of the Greek word botòn (head of cattle).
