COVIELLO

Coviello is widespread in Campania, Potentino and Bari, could derive from a dialectal modification of the name Covello (see COVELLI), but the most probable hypothesis is a derivation from a nickname originated from the name of the mask of the central-southern dialectal theater Coviello (astute servant , ruffiano, cialtrone) character that is also found in the comedy of Molière, the Borghese Gentleman.
