CALZAVARA | CALZAVARI

Calzavara is typical of the Triveneto, in particular of Venice, Mirano, Santa Maria di Sala, Mira, Pianiga, Martellago, Dolo and Spinea in the Venetian dialect and of Campodarsego, Vigonza and Padua in the Padua area, Calzavari is practically unique and is probably due to an error of transcription of the previous one, they should derive from archaic semidialettal terms for shoemaker or shoe manufacturer, traces of these surnames we find in Venice in the State Archive where we find the notaries Andrea Calzavara operating from 1638 to 1686, Angelo Calzavara operating from 1651 to 1680 and Luca Calzavara from 1668 to 1716.
