MORACCHI | MORACCHINI

Both Moracchi and Moracchini are surnames of Corsican origin which have almost disappeared in Italy, but, at least the second, well present in Corsica, should derive from hypocoristic forms of the term morus (moro), of the Latin name Maurus, also understood in a literal sense, that is of person coming from Mauritania, traces of these surnames can be found already in the second half of 1600 where a Moracchini appears among the military courses at the service of the Serenissima Republic of Venice.
