NOLASCHI | NOLASCO

Nolaschi is almost unique, Nolasco is probably of Sicilian origins, of the Nisseno where it is particularly present in Mazzarino and especially of the Syracuse in Rosolini, they could derive from the order of the Nolaschi established in the XIIIth century to protect the prisoners in the hands of the Turks who did their best for the redemption of the same, Nolasco could therefore understand both the status of prisoner in the hands of the rescued Turks, and a simple form of devotion that attributed the name Nolasco to his own son. We find traces of these surnames since the second half of the 1100s with San Pietro Nolasco (~ 1182 - ~ 1256) of French origin.
