Petilli, extremely rare, has some presence in the Neapolitan dialect and a very small stock in Potenza and Muro Lucano in the Potenza area, Petillo is typically from Campania, from Naples, Camposano, Nola, Cicciano, Tufino and Cimitile in the Neapolitan, from Pollica, Salerno and Castellabbate in the Salerno area and of Caserta and Avellino, they should derive from apheretic hypocoristic forms originating from the medieval name Agapito (see AGAPITI).
