PIETANESE | PIETANESI

Pietanese, almost unique, it would seem Abruzzese, Pietanesi is specific of Macerata, of Recanati in particular, it is difficult to formulate hypotheses about the possible origin of these surnames, unlikely a Slovak derivation from an ethnic form of the city of Pietani, the current Piestany, but the other hypothesis, equally improbable, consists in a derivation from the archaic dialectal term pietane or pietene (comb), perhaps to indicate in the progenitors of the producers of those objects.
