Saritzu, almost unique, is Quartu Sant'Elena in Cagliaritano, Sarritzu is typical of Cagliari and its surroundings, should derive from a nickname. Additions provided by Giuseppe Concas SARITZU; SARRITZU: It is a compound word > on Arritzu, S'arritzu. In Campidano S'arrìtzu is the gnat that enters the eye: "M'hat Intrau an Arritzu in S'ogu"! = I got a speck in my eye. S'arritzu, S'eritsu, S'iritzu, S'arritzòni, S'arritsòni is also the hedgehog, from the Latin Ericius. S'arritzoni de Matta = the ground urchin; S'arritzoni de Mari = the sea urchin. Or even S'arritzu or S'arritzoni de sa castangia = the chestnut hedgehog. From which "probably" derives the name of the country Aritzo (1426 inhabitants; province of Nuoro; 900 m. A.S.L. known as the country of the chestnuts. Present in the ancient documents of the history of Sardinia). In which documents we have not found it as surname, except in the variant Aritzo (see ARITZO). Currently the surname Sarritzu is present in 53 Italian municipalities, of which 25 in Sardinia: Quartu S. E. 452, Cagliari 81, Quartucciu 45, Dolianova 21, etc. Sarritzu (Safe anagrapic error) is present in the only commune of Quartu, with only one household.
