Absolutely rare it is typical of Bonarcado (OR), it derives from a nickname originated from the Sardinian word accareddu (small cowherd), probably originated from the small stature and the job of cowherd. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas ACCAREDDU: uncertainties remain on the meaning and etymology. It could derive from a (c) ca = half-size horse, from the Catalan haca = caval petit de estatura; or from άčča (àccia), which in Campidanese and Logudorese means torch, candlestick, from Catalan àtxa; άčča de poburu = poor people's lantern: in this case there would be aččarèddu (acciarèddu) in phonetics. There is no comparison in the ancient papers. Currently we find the surname only in two Sardinian Municipalities: Bonarcado 30, Oristano 6.
