Bertin, a typical Venetian, seems to be particularly widespread in the Paduan area, Bertina, absolutely rare, it would seem Piedmontese, Bertinelli has various small stocks in Lombardy and Emilia, with a significant stock in the Parma and Bologna areas, a stock in the Perugia area and one in Rome, Bertinetti is typically Piedmontese, specific to Turin and Baldissero in Turin, Buttigliera Alta and Castiglione Torinese in the Turin area and to Mongrando in the Biella area, Bertinetto is specific to western Piedmont, Cavour, Turin, Villafranca Piemonte and Piossasco in Turin, Bertini is widespread throughout the centronord, particularly in Tuscany, Bertino has a Piedmontese core, in particular in Turin and one in Sicily, between Messina and Catania, all derive, directly or through dialectal or hypocoristic alterations, from the medieval name Bertinus, of which we have an example in the Monferrato 1300: "Year dominion thousandth cccv, indizione tercia, die martis VIII mensis marcii, in burgo Tridini sub caxina marchionatus, presentibus ... ... Thome de Guasto, Bertino de Castagnolio, et pluribus aliis testibus vocatis et rogatis ... ", a name which in turn derives from a hypocoristic name Berto (see BERTE '). We find traces of these surnames in Lucca since 1400.
