BONA | BONACINA | BONACINI | BONI | BONI' | BONO

Bonacina is a surname found throughout the north in Lazio and Sicily, Bonacini would seem typically Emilian, from Reggio and Modena, Bona, throughout the central north, Boni and typical of northern Lombardy (provinces of Como, Varese, Milan, Bergamo , Brescia), Bonì, very rare, is typically Sicilian, of Trapani and Alcamo in particular, Bono is widespread in Piedmont, Liguria and Lombardy, in the provinces of Rome and Latin, in Salento, Calabria and Sicily. All these surnames should derive, either directly or through hypocoristic or dialectal alterations, from the Latin name Bonus past used also by the barbarian conquerors, Bono is also Lombard name, of which we have an example in Pavia in a Cartula venditionis of 1144: ".. .manuum suprascriptorum iugalium qui hanc cartulam vendicionis fieri rogaverunt et suprascriptum precium acceperunt et ipse Bonus Iohannes eidem coniux suo consensit ut supra ... ", we find traces of these surnames already in 1204 in Cesena in the Convent of Santa Maria where one of the friars mentioned in a writing it is called Joanne Bono and in Verona where in 1500 it reads: "... interrogatus Dominus Julius Bonaccinus, veronensis, rector dictae ecclesiae, super primum capitulum dixit ...".
