CIMA | CIMATTI | CIMETTI

Cima is widespread in Lazio, in the Forlì area, in Lucca and in the leopard spots in the north-west, Cimatti is specifically from Romagna, from Ravenna between Faenza and Ravenna in particular, Cimetti is specific to Grosio in the Sondri area and Olgiate Comasco and Bizzarrone in the Como area they should all derive, directly or through hypocoristic or patronymic forms, from the medieval name Cima of which we have an example in Florence, in a writing of 13 July 1273 we read: "Item MCCLXXIII, first index, day XIII iulii. Actum Florentie in ecclesia Sancti Laurentii presentibus testibus presbitero Guidoni canonico ipsius ecclesie Sancti Laurentii, Guidalocto quondam domini Rigalecti et Cima quondam domini Lacopi Morandi ... ". A trace of this surname is found in Forlì in 1600 with the printer Giovanni Cimatti (1626-1667).
