COCCHI | COCCO | COCHI | COCO

Cocchi has a nucleus between Emilia and upper Tuscany, with stocks also in Lombardy and Lazio, Cocco is typically Panitalian with a very important nucleus in Sardinia, Coco. also Panitalian has a large nucleus in Sicily and in Puglia, Cocchi, not very common, it would seem typical of the Roman area, Latin, all derive from the medieval name Coccus or Cochus of which we find an example in the Pisan Annales to the year 1159: "... AD MCLVIIII. Coccus consul duas turres in summer in portu Magnali incepit et fontem at Sanctum Stefanum de portu Pisano pro utilitate marinariorum ordinavit et munivit ..." and in the Diplomatic Code of medieval Lombardy in a deed of sale dated 1192 a Martinus Cochus is mentioned in Melegnano as witnesses. We find a principle of this surname since the twelfth century in Lombardy in the Diplomatic Code of medieval Lombardy in a Carta venditionis drawn up in Milan we read: "... habet semper iure et ratione ab omni contradicente homine et maxime a Gibuino et a Bontempo germanos , filios quondam Iohannis Cocco ... ". additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Cocchi is patronymic from the medieval personalist Coccus, Cocculus (11th century), to which a particular affective meaning must be ascribed, such as the Italian còcco, còccolo, used with regard to children and loved ones. A Cokinus, head to an act of the bishop of Modena Enrico, is mentioned in 1161. With the surname Cocchi also goes its derivative Cocconi, present in Carpi and in the Reggio area. Source: F. Violi, Surnames in Modena and in the Modena area.
