CUSCUSA

Cuscusa, decidedly Sardinian, has a stock in the Oristano area of Paulilatino, Iglesias and Macomer in the Nuoro area, it could derive from a nickname originating from the Sardinian word logudorese cuscusa or cuscuso (a kind of semolina soup). additions provided by Giuseppe Concas CUSCUSA: cuscusa, cuscusone / i: with these items are called parts of some wild herbs, usually corn ears: murine barley (hordeum murinum), forasacco (bromus), lappa or lappola ( arctium lappa). These all have fruits (the parts of the ears) that stick to trousers, t-shirts, clothes in general. They are very annoying because they penetrate into the pants, into the stockings of shoes until they puncture the skin. They are very dangerous when they penetrate the nostrils of dogs, because they go deeper and deeper. When a person becomes annoying and insistent we commonly say: "Esti peus de u 'cuscusòni" (E' worse than a ..) Perhaps the surname derives from the characteristics of cuscusòni. "I don't want anyone who carries this surname, for my observation"! Their etymology remains uncertain: perhaps it is onomatopoeia. The Wagner puts the question mark! But let's not forget that couscous or cuscussù is a typical dish from North Africa, based on wheat semolina, wild at one time: from the kuskus Berber. For the moment we know nothing else. Currently the surname Cuscusa is present in 36 Italian Municipalities, of which 19 in Sardinia: Paulilatino 34, Iglesias 16, Macomer 14, etc.
