MENZI | MENZIO | MENZO

Menzi is almost unique, Menzio is typically Piedmontese, from Turin, Turin, Chieri, Pino Torinese, Isolabella, Moncalieri and Caselette, Menzo is Sicilian, Enna and Niscemi in Nisseno, all these surnames should derive from Italianizations of the medieval Germanic name Menz, or Meinz, a hypocoristic form of the name Meinhardt, in turn a contracted form of the name Maginhard, composed of the terms magin (strength) and of hard (hard), difficult to hypothesize a connection with the Mentius, medieval name of the river Mincio that we find quoted in a text, on the ancient auriferous sources, of the XIth century: "..Sunt etiam ista flumina: Abdua, Oglus, Mentius, Sarno, Atese, Brenta, Trebia ...".
