Misericordia is a very rare surname, it would seem typically Lombard or Tuscan, although it has now remained only in Lombardy and Calabria in the Reggio area, it could derive from the fact that it was the progenitor a newborn abandoned to the nuns of a Convent of Santa Maria della Misericordia or of a Company of Mercy. additions provided by Luca Misericordia I am Umbrian from Terni and it appears that my family has been Umbrian for at least 5 generations (the furthest ancestor is from the mid-1700s).
