Bellina has a Friulian stock in the Udinese area of Venzone, Gemona del Friuli, Udine and Paluzza and a Sicilian one, particularly in Palermo in Palermo, Castellana Sicula, Petralia Sottana and Cerda, has an important stock also in Ragusa and Trapani, Bellino has a stock in western Piedmont, in Savona and one also in southern Italy, with greater concentrations in Puglia and Sicily, they could derive from toponyms such as Bellino (CN) or from apheresis of toponyms like Gibellina (TP), but the most probable hypothesis is a derivation from the medieval name Bellina or Bellinus of which we have an example in the Brescia Diplomatic Code in Le carte di S. Pietro in Monte Ursino in a Sententia of the year 1176 in Nuvolento (BS): "... Item dixit ille Bellinus if it were postea in vicinia of Serlis ubi ille Malvezatus fecit such sacramentum as predictus Fretholandus fecerat in vicinia de Nuvolera, et dixit similiter predictum abatem et consules de Serlis ...
