Ancient and very noble Ligurian family, with residence in Recco, where it is already present in the tenth fourth century, according to what the genealogists Ganduccio, Gniscardi and Della Cella affirm, spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. The members of the family can be found, already in the 16th century, among the "mercatores nigri", in the person of Donato and Lodisio, while among the "artifices nigri" we find an Augustine. In 1528, the De Marchi were then ascribed to the nobility in the Hotel De Marini, in the person of Stefano Agostino, Nicolò, Gregorio, Donato, Gio. Francesco, Pietro Simone, Gio. Stefano, Paolo Antonio, Lorenzo, Barnaba and Bernardo. Raphael was elderly in the years 1545, 1549, 1551 while he was vicar in La Spezia in 1550 and also captain of galleys.
