Alte und berühmte deutsche Familie, von klarer und angestammter Tugend, verbreitete sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Europas und der Welt. Der Überlieferung nach stammt er aus dem preußischen Adelsgeschlecht der Rappen, auch Rappe genannt. Letzterer, seit jeher dem Deutschen Orden zugehörig, taucht in amtlichen Dokumenten bereits 1543 auf, wenn ein Heinrich R. erwähnt wird, dann der preußische Kanzler Christoph (1566-1619), dessen Neffe Otto (+ 1634) 1620 war auch in der Ritterschaft von Kurland eingeschrieben. Ein weiterer Christoph von R. († 1716) erhielt später 1698 in Königsberg die Bestätigung des preußischen Adels. Leider starb die Familie Rappen aus, 1744 in Preußen und 1752 in Kurland. Glücklicherweise hatte sie sich in den vergangenen Jahrhunderten stark verbreitet, wodurch andere eigenständige Linien entstanden waren, wie zum Beispiel der Überlieferung nach die Rappenecker. Die Rappenecker hatten ihre Wiege in Baden-Württemberg und tatsächlich werden sie bereits Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts sowohl in Stuttgart

Di rosso, ad un mezzo uomo vestito d'oro, impugnante in ogni mano un ramo di palma del medesimo. Cimiero: il mezzo uomo dello scudo.

L'arma di questa famiglia risulta purtroppo ignota negli Armoriali. Una sua ricostruzione è stata però resa possibile dalla presenza di frammentarie informazioni d'archivio e dal ricorso alle consuete congetture araldiche.
