Ancient and very noble family of the Kingdom of Naples, originally from Amalfi but moved to reside in Naples, where it was ascribed to the Seat of Nile, then Nido, called Iodice, Jodice or dello Iodice, which spread over the centuries in different regions of 'Italy. The origin of this cognomination, to say the least of authoritative genealogists, should be sought in the fact that a, today unknown, progenitor had the responsibility of "judge" (NB once the judges not only dealt with administering justice, but also with administratively manage a territory). A Claudio Iodice, baron of Molinara and Riccia, went, as Captain, with Carlo, Duke of Calabria, to Tuscany, and therefore his son Ferrante was created by the said Duke, a Stationary Master of Tuscany. On the other hand, this family produced a series of men, who made his name famous, in public employment and in military service. Among these, there are: Tommaso, lieutenant of the Royal Chamber of the Summary, in 1382; Mario, who was an adviser to Queen Giovanna I; Luigi and Carlo, Waiters and Knights of King Charles III; Marino, Archbishop of Taranto, Cardinal and Camerlengo of the Holy Church; Andrea, owner of Agropoli, and Boffilio, lord of Carpaccio and Otra, both Knights, Waiters and State Councilors; Boffilio II, generalissimo of Louis XI; Fabio, knight of the Order of Malta in 1591; Camillo, famous jurisconsult. The family was declared admissible in the Royal Bodyguards in 1835; they participated in the campaign of 1860/61 for the defense of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies: Andrea, 1st lieutenant of the "Royal Gendarmerie on Horseback"; Aniello, 1st lieutenant of the "4th Battalion Hunters"; Ferdinando, standard bearer (second lieutenant) of the "13th Infantry Regiment of Linea Lucania"; Luciano, 1st lieutenant of the "12th Messina Line Infantry Regiment"; Raffaele, major of the
