It is very true that the Catalan garrò has mostly the same meaning. There are therefore two hypotheses: whether it is a surname imported from Spain, or that instead comes from Piedmont, where, as mentioned, Garrone is widespread. We did not find the surname in the ancient papers of Sardinia. Carrone is present in 52 Italian Municipalities, of which 8 in Sardinia: Irgoli 14, Oliena 9, Galtelì 9, Nuoro 6, etc. Carrone has a consistent stock also in Puglia, but we don't know with what meaning and etymology: it could indicate a big wagon, for example. Carroni is present in 30 Italian Municipalities, of which 14 in Sardinia: Nuoro 74, Siniscola 13, Ortacesus 21, etc.
