honorable piece consisting of a portion of the shield placed vertically and passing through the center, a third of the overall width of the shield itself. It can have the contour lines with alternating battlements ("double-edged") or opposite ("double-edged"), or crenellated on one side only ("crenellated"); it can be of less than normal width ("diminished"), with zigzag contour lines ("rippled"), wavy ("wavy"), or with the extremes that tend to widen ("license").
