Italian heraldic dictionary


the quarter moon, with the points facing upwards ("upright"), downwards ("upside down"), towards the right of the shield ("face"), towards the left ("facing"), towards the upper right corner ("face in band") or left corner ("face in bar"); if they are two and have the points one against the other they are said to be "faced", if they have the convex part they are said to be "leaning against"; three or more and placed in a different position are said to be "irregular".
