conventional figure consisting of three leaves, two of which curved downwards, joined at the base by a bar; if long stamens and pistils come out of the leaves or petals, it is said to be "buttoned", if it has a long stem, it is said to be "flogged", if it appears only in half, divided by a partition or a piece, it is said "outgoing".
